  • This is from the Sony recording of the Julliard String Quartet with Yo Yo Ma on Cello.

  • Thanks for syncing the score with this. :)

  • @MusicaRicercata I think it adds to the haunted character of this piece

  • This is a must for those needing an intro to Schoenberg. Call it Schoenberg 101.

  • @saotomi5102 dear saotomi, no offence was intended, except towards yo yo ma, who wouldn’t care anyway. sure, the temperatures had plunged that day; so had some of the artistic standards (btw, not ALL the musicians did that: for aught i know, aretha franklin didn’t, her instrument warm under her hat). in retrospect, the fake “performance” that morning became sadly emblematic of the event, a portent. -- All of that having nothing to do with the 1899 uhm germanic masterpiece.

  • @hugovdg Ummmm, so I can't determine your tone about your comment. yo-yo ma did that because the weather made keeping any instrument in tune difficult. All the musicians dubbed themselves.....

  • @saotomi5102 let me guess: it is Yo Yo Ma overdubbing the Julliard (rearranged) 4-tet on two cellos. Why not? He had done something similar already, hand-sync-ing to himself on January 20, 2009, in Washington, DC, on the Inauguration Day

  • 1:45 the night has changed

  • Just discovered this, definite new top five favourite piece.

  • @ArtD42 Haha, Yo-Yo Ma on second cello, haha. I'm just kidding. I figured he'd be on first.

  • Yo-Yo Ma on cello? Do we know if he's first or second cello?
