Renowned musician Seckou Keita, otherwise known as Senegal's Hendrix of the Kora, is launching a new partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross.

This partnership will see Seckou donate 50% of all the proceeds made from his most recent and highly acclaimed album, The Silimbo Passage, sold over the next six months.

Seckou chose the ICRC because it is a humanitarian organisation particularly close to his heart. He grew up in Casamance, Southern Senegal, a region that has been affected by armed violence for the last 30 years, which has led to increasing instability, rising poverty and the loss of many lives.

There is only one humanitarian organisation that Seckou and the people of Casamance remember from their childhood, "The Red Cross sparks memories from my youth. I did not know what they were about but I knew they were doing good things," he says.
