This song was played at Willy's in St. Peter, MN by Tombstone Trio. It's a fantastic song. I am 20, but i love these old rockabilly songs. Best version on youtube rite here.

Lyrics:
Headed down south to the land of the pines
And I'm thumbin' my way into North Caroline
Starin' up the road
And pray to God I see headlights

I made it down the coast in seventeen hours
Pickin' me a bouquet of dogwood flowers
And I'm a hopin' for Raleigh
I can see my baby tonight

So rock me mama like a wagon wheel
Rock me mama anyway you feel
Hey mama rock me
Rock me mama like the wind and the rain
Rock me mama like a south-bound train
Hey mama rock me

Runnin' from the cold up in New England
I was born to be a fiddler in an old-time stringband
My baby plays the guitar
I pick a banjo now

Oh, the North country winters keep a gettin' me now
Lost my money playin' poker so I had to up and leave
But I ain't a turnin' back
To livin' that old life no more

So rock me mama like a wagon wheel
Rock me mama anyway you feel
Hey mama rock me
Rock me mama like the wind and the rain
Rock me mama like a south-bound train
Hey mama rock me

Walkin' to the south out of Roanoke
I caught a trucker out of Philly
Had a nice long toke
But he's a headed west from the Cumberland Gap
To Johnson City, Tennessee

And I gotta get a move on fit for the sun
I hear my baby callin' my name
And I know that she's the only one
And if I die in Raleigh
At least I will die free

So rock me mama like a wagon wheel
Rock me mama anyway you feel
Hey mama rock me
Rock me mama like the wind and the rain
Rock me mama like a south-bound train
Hey mama rock me

  • Well i uploaded this from a gig cd they trade for tips....but, go to vidtomp3.com copy paste the link...pretty simple:-)

  • Agreed. I can play this song and sing it...just not at the same time xD. G D Em C. Keeping the strumming pattern is the issue i have.

  • My cousin plays the upright bass in this band

  • @nbhonsey with blue weed whacker/whipper strings. very unique to say the least. :P

  • Thank you for givin Bob Dylan his due by crediting him for this tune and not Old Crow Medicine Sham...

  • @PiperPride33 You're welcome. Although, I think Old Crow finished the song...but Bob Dylan is from my home state of Minnesota, and he started it so he deserved the credit :)

  • @PiperPride33 the courus is bob dylan's. The rest of the song was written by Old Crow Medicine Show and OCMS give Bob Dylan credit for writing the song.

  • Sorry kid but this is in no way rockabilly, though I agree its a good tune. You want approachability got check out Levi and the Rockats, Brian Setzer, and a few Reverend Horton Heat song, etc. This is more folk/bluegrass. No where near rockabilly.

  • You wouldnt know where i could download this for free do you?

  • This is NOT a Bob Dylan cover.

It is an Old Crow Medicine Show cover.

The chorus is from an unfinished Dylan work, however the song is an OCMS song.

OCMS does credit Dylan as being a co-writer of the song.

  • I'm learning how to play this on guitar! I'm happy that it is original. None of that...... revisited stuff....
