Cathy McGill isn't ready to retire after 38 years on the job at the Illinois Department of Transportation. She and other employees of the traffic safety division definitely don't want to give up their lives here and possibly leave family and friends behind.
She and four co-workers talked with reporters this afternoon from their union's headquarters about the personal and professional fallout they fear will come from the division moving to southern Illinois.
This is just way too pitiful- especially the one whose son doesn't even live with her. gimme a break. If you've had your job for 38 years, count your blessings and get out and let young people have these jobs who have children to feed.

Central and northern Illinois has for years gotten the good jobs and higher wages while southern Illinois has gotten nothing. The bottom counties of Randolph,Perry,Franklin,Hamilton,White,Galatin,Saline,Williamson,Jackson,Union,Johnson,Pope,Hardin,Massac,Pulaski and Particulary Alexander have been cheated for far too long and need to separate from the rest of the state. Egypt should be a state. Coal, two mighty rivers, farming, the Shawnee national forest could easily take care of our people.

All of these people will do just fine in Harrisburg. Their situations should not be allowed to hold the state hostage to a continued over-concentration of administrative offices in Springfield, at the expense of the rest of the state.
