Is it ok to spank your child? What does the Bible say?

I take a very close look at Proverbs 13:24 and explore whether it is ok to spank my child.

I was spanked as a child and looking back at it I knew that my parents did it because they loved me.

Proverbs 23:13,14 "Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die . Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell." The Hebrew word for 'beatest/beat' is 'nakah' meaning >> to strike, smite, hit, beat.

@HotpepperDr stoning a child to death would be biblical too, if people took everything in the bible seriously than the U.S would be the most screwed up country in the world, the bible is a bad thing, because people misunderstand everything it says

There's a difference between slapping your child lightly and punchig your child until they fall unconsious.

@HotpepperDr You don't know anything about my history, so do not assume. There is no such thing as a "healthy spanking."  HItting another human to inflict physical pain on their sacral area does not teach right from wrong, but sets a very bad example. If you have spanked your children, ask them for forgiveness. You can try to rationalize it all you want to, but when an adult hits a child, the adult is acting like a child. Spanking is using hits and stings to communicate. It is very immature.

Either you're delusional about parenting and pretending to live in a world that does not exist where parent' have no rights to correct children with what they are up against. I think you were seriously abused by a male figure who disciplined you out of hate in their heart. A loving parent reconciles with their child immediately after a spank and moves on in a healthy manor.

this site only provokes people. it's not open minded. too many narrow minded parent's who actually get confused with what a spanking is and why it's sometimes used. the parents speaking on this site have been ABUSED not Spanked. The root problem here lies with parent's who don't know how to inflicted a quick spank when a child is completely out of control. No one gives the parent's who spank the credit that a spank is rarely used.

the word "spank" does not imply hitting someone hard. If you read my comment it said I "Never" use spanking as a first course of action. Parent's know when their children are defying their authority and when they are being ridiculous brats. I feel bad for you that your parent's lost control disciplining you. We have all these spoiled brats in prison because of cowardly parents who let children walk all over them and embarrass them. No loving parent enjoys spanking,but it is necessary sometimes.
