It's amazing how awesome the Japanese rail system is.

Some politicians in the US are desperate to build something similar here in the US. But I think it'll fail miserably cause most Americans can't stand being near each other for any amount of time and they are in love with their cars/trucks.

@Cirris thx for your comment. i think budget may be the most crucial factor for US not to build ones...(´・ω・`) ~2.5hr ride on HSR from LA to SFO is nothing compared to traffic mess to/from airports, troublesome　checking-in, tigher seats, ...

A high-speed rail network needs people that are able to do their jobs dutifully with consistency... something that is rather lacking out-side of Japan. Hence their superb track record with the Shinkansen.
