Mool or Mul Mantra is a basic key prayer of Sikhs which sums up the basic concepts of the Sikh religion.

Ik Onkar — There is one God
Satnam — His Name is everlasting
Karta — He is the Creator
Purakh — He is present through His Creation
Nirbhao — He fears none
Nirvair — He hates none
Akal Murat — His existence is immortal
Ajuni — He is not born, nor does He die
Saibhang — He is self-illuminated
Gur prasad — He is realized through the grace of the Guru

Mul means root, it has a similar etymological origin to the Punjabi language word Muli which means white radish. A Mantar or Mantra is "an empowering formula for repetition". The Mul Mantra is thus the root statement of Sikhism.

~Early life and education:
As a child, Kaur heard Harbhajan Singh Yogi when her parents attended his classes after becoming Sikhs. The family moved to California when Kaur was two, living in Long Beach and Sacramento. When Kaur was six, the family went to India where her mother studied kirtan. Kaur lived on a ranch near Bolinas, California as an adolescent, playing kirtan with her mother in Sikh temples and attending Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley. While at Tam High, she played violin in the school orchestra and began songwriting. Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead coached her and her classmates before they performed her song Saving the Earth at an Earth Day concert in San Francisco.

Kaur was also active in social and environmental causes while in high school, serving as president of the Social Action Club, which started a campus recycling program and organized environmenal awareness programs. The Club also led the effort to change the school mascot and sports team names from the Indians to the Red Tailed Hawk in 1990 and 1991. After graduating from Tam, Kaur attended Mills College in Oakland, California, receiving a bachelors degree in biochemistry. She then returned to India, to study kirtan under her mother's teacher, Bhai Hari Singh. She lived near the Golden Temple. In 1997, Kaur began a career as a food technologist with Peace Cereals in Eugene, Oregon.

~Music:
A Sikh and Kundalini Yoga teacher, Snatam Kaur is a singer and musician, gaining a growing fame in the world of spiritual music. After a few year as the singer of the spiritual music group The Peace Family, she started a solo career. Her music mixes western melodies with Indian sounds, mantras from the Kundalini yoga tradition, words of Harbhajan Singh Yogi and personal lyrics. She often tours in the United States and Canada, and within Sikh communities worldwide (India, Singapore) among which she is more and more renowned as a talented kirtan singer. In 2007, The Celebrate Peace Tour (2007) was accompanied by Guru Ganesha Singh, Manish Vyas, and Ram Dass Khalsa. Spiritual music artists such as Deva Premal now sing her compositions. ► FOR THE RECORD: The Mul Mantra was originally uploaded on Aetopus channel Dec. 22, 2010 and deleted Nov. 17, 2011. This video had 92,457 video views, approx. 250 to 300 views per day. I was very surprised that such a simply made video could become so popular so quickly. Regrettably, I removed all copyright videos from Aetopus channel to avoid a 3rd strike.

That 2nd strike is for Anugama's "Tropical Morning" track from his "Lightness of Being" album. I am probably the first person in youtube history to receive a strike for Anugama music, and I bought 3 of his CDs. To date, no other users I've asked has copyright notices on their Anugama videos let alone strikes against their channel for Anugama music. VIDEO THEFT: To add further insult to injury, channel "MsNeraz" who also owns the "Altruz" channel, stole my Mul Mantra video on April 25, 2011, I only recently found out about it in Nov 2011. NOTE: Altruz created the MsNeraz channel on the same day my Mul Mantra was uploaded in order to hide the theft. UPDATE: MsNeraz/Altruz finally did the right thing and removed my video on November 17, 2011. The lame excuse s/he gave me for uploading my video: "I didn't make the music." My reply: "I made the video for the music, not you, so get busy and make your own video and stop stealing other peoples work."
