Host Harry Kreisler welcomes writer and journalist Tariq Ali for a discussion of Pakistan and its relations with the United States. He places the present crisis in its historical context exploring the origins of the Pakistani state, the failure to forge a national identity, the inability and unwillingness of Pakistani leaders to address the country's poverty and inequality, and the role of the military in the country's spiral toward violence and disunity. Tariq Ali highlights the significance of the U.S. relationship throughout Pakistan's history and analyzes current US policy and its implications for stability in the region. • I wish brainwashed Pakis will listen to the voice of reason... Muslim identity is a hoax.. we are better off looking at ourselves as Progressive, liberal Pakistanis instead of thinking of us as slaves of Saudi Wahabi regime.

  • I didn't say Islam is the sole reason, I said it plays a significant role. Saudi maybe be rich in oil money but that is an intellectually bankrupt nation.

  • He s quite true but the cynics and ealots will hate him for this.

  • in fact brainwashing of gullible has been so strong the brainwashed now see nothing else than hatred for other religions n cultures. zia introduced tat for his motives. 25 years hence, still true with deadly results for ur country.

  • these are kind of people who can take ur country where it belongs. as an outsider(indian) who follows pak closely i say no bibi no nawaz no shujaat no army chief can salvage it. the mindset of the masses needs to be awakened. wahabi nonsense maybe the saudis like but pakistanis should politely thank them n refuse to accept it. tats for 1

  • pakistan is not a great nation, who ever believes that is living a lie. pakistanis are sooo narrow minded that they dont realize how they are being f**kd every day for the past 50yrs. what pakistan needs is a future, option: have a 100 tariq alis; line up all the current politicians and corrupt leaders and shoot them all, and have them replaced by tariq alis. now that would be a start
