Here is what 1 John 1:8-10
8If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
so here it states that we will sin as Christians, but we confess and repent. If you say we do not sin, you are a liar.

1 John 3:9 more accurately reads "No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, For God's (litt."his") seed abides in him..." Yes, it is true, those who are truly saved must not make a practice of sinning, but THEY WILL STILL SIN! We are still in the body of flesh, are we not? Have you read Paul, or do you discount his words. What of Romans 7:15-25 "For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out."

That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD. Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things prophesy deceits(Isa 30:9-10).
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables 2 Tim 4:3-4

I hope your investigation of your graduate topics goes a bit deeper than the way in which you handle eternal topics.
"I don't have time to actually read the book...I just want to judge its thesis based on my preconceptions... I don't want to actually know what he's saying about people based on what he's written, I just want to accuse him of misrepresenting them because I like them."
Nice work Roadwarrior, you'll fit right in with this generation.

Is this about Arminianism vs Calvinism?
flyn2myhome 2 years ago
No, to me it is not about that at all. It's about truth vs. error...rightly dividing the word of truth vs. misinterpreting it. Also, Moody is not Calvinistic nor have I read Arminius.

Dear Brother! Do I get you right? Please help me with your interpretations. Do you say that a Christians needs a clean record in his performance to get to heaven, or do you still see, that even Christians do fail and sin...even though they have a new heart and sin is against their new nature...
dear brother, please let´s talk about it...this is not an attack...

Thanks for the note Michael! I'm glad to talk. You asked: "Do you say that a Christians needs a clean record in his performance to get to heaven?"
Regarding this, I agree with Jesus in John 14:23:
"If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him."

You see, Michael, most today believe that Jesus came to save us in our sins, but the scriptures actually teach that He came to save us from our sins.
Which is why I believe that...
"Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother" (1 John 3:9-10).
