Excellent, I would have just carried her over 2m to the side of the pool instead of the end

nice carry

@oleksiy1000 - good job! that's exactly what i was referring to - it needn't be a pia carry; the actual skill is called "management of drowning victim" (not do a pia carry). ;-) that being said, if a pia carry is done well, it's very effective.

@TheArsenalist i just did my NLS and i did underarm carry and sometime during the rescue i user one arm to hold under shoulders and other arm to help carry and i still [passed because the Shoulders were above water the whole time.

Nicely done.

the pia carry is very effective using your hip to carry the victim, anything else besides egg beater is highly ineffective

It's nice to be able to do the pia carry, but note that the actual NLS standard does not specify what type of carry needs to be used, only that you need to approach the victim such that they cannot grab you and that the victim's head and shoulders are above the water from the point of contact to the point of safety. So try not to worry too much! :)

@TheArsenalist
True, the standard is what it is. There are also variations of the PIA carry. What is important, is to demonstrate at least one skill that works. Most candidates want to know exactly what to do, at least at the start. Having guarded now for over 30 years, I find the PIA is the fastest approach when executed properly.

@purpleprinc355 - Most candidates get overly nervous at the start and once they get into the swing of things calm right down. Practising will make you feel a lot better as well. NLS is a lot of fun!
