Monique Hedderson, PhD, talks about the results of a Kaiser Permanente Division of Research study showing that women who gained more weight during pregnancy than is recommend by the Institute of Medicine had a 50 percent increased risk of developing gestational diabetes mellitus, or GDM. Hedderson, who just had a baby herself, details some of the findings from the study, which was published in the journal Obstetrics and Gynecology.   • In other words, get off your butts and start working out and lay off the crab legs, wine and cheesecake!!!!

  • The idea of sharing a somewhat "down-to-Earth" video relating the results of recent medical research is fascinating and encouraging to me. I don't think this video sacrificed too much of the relevant science and was still able to keep it somewhat interesting for the average viewer. I think it's vital not to "dumb down" the information too much, but it should still not be overly technical. Is this video sharing going to be a new trend for medical researchers? I hope so!
