  • Hi!

i have a question, i got a wilesco d16 from 1950(check my channel) and when i open the whistle it just spits out water. I don t have to much water in the boiler. Do you now whats wrong?!

  • Usually due to too much water in the boiler, but you say that the boiler is not over-filled.

I find that with these engines, filling the boiler to just above the half-way mark is ideal.

Using the whistle when the engine is running fast will still blow out water though. It helps if you can lower the flame once the engine is hot. Using gas will allow you to do this.

  • Wow. Very Exciting Model. I have got a D 20 from nearly the same age. Do you know the reason why the engine was so heavy to start at the beginning ( around 1:30)? I have the same problem nearly all time I start it. Is it bad for the engine? What can I do against that?

  • @lexander5

That is normal. Just turn the flywheel slowly until the excess water and oil come out of the exhaust. Do not use force to turn the engine over. Water is hard to compress and could damage the engine.

  • But how does it run on solid Esbit fuel ??

  • No reason why it shouldn't work OK with Esbit. It does come with an Esbit burner. :)

Never use the stuff myself. Too smelly and no control to speak of.

  • @MrRazmushenriksson it means you should probably get a new whistle

  • Very nice D24, still a great engine!

  • Very very nice engine. I have a Wilesco d20 of the same age and, well, I have the same problems with the o-rings of the regulator and the "water-let off-valve" on the boiler. Do you have some tips how you can change them?

  • Thank you. Glad you like it. :)
