  • I think that the guy walking with Laura was Felix Cavalieri, her friend and producer, but the other one on her balcony is Jim Fielder, 100 %.

  • I can see why this song didn't make the cut. It's kind of all over the place, a combination of riffs she used before, and after. But it's still fascinating, because it's Laura in her prime. A real treat to hear this. BTW....I was at the Carnegie Hall debut, so I know what it means to be what we used to call a "Laura Nyro freak".......like a "Dead Head", but for Laura. I think there's someone out there who knows exactly what this means.

  • @mhertz25 I disagree. Every song has elements of one, two or more own artist songs. Sometimes it could be influenced by others poets or artists. It is very natural. That´s how I listen to "Coffee Morning" and some of Laura´s masterpieces. But the real deal is how an artist does this "musicshake" (sorry for that!), if it is original and sounds good for a person who has a minimum good music taste. In the other hand, there are much examples of bad results everywhere, I love this mix, by the way.

  • What a fantastic song! I read the comments below about Michele Kort's biography of Laura. I HAVE to read it; I have just bought 3 of Laura's CDs; might as well get the bio. Many thanks for posting this beautiful song...

  • @DenJamMac3 Michele Kort´s work on Laura´s career is wonderful.

  • Engpauloh, you know that this tune was written in 1967, for sure? I read that it was

demo recorded in 1974, same time as "Get Me My Cap" and "Someone Loves You..."

Always looking for accurate information when it comes to the MUSE...

  • U are right! This song comes from a demo recorded in 1974, like other two: "Someone Loves You" and "Get Me My Cap". Sorry about that.

  • What's cool about Nyro is that she "retired" from the music biz before the yuppie record exec "suits" tried to make her this packaged pop star. She literally probably gave up millions in potential earnings; oh and to Lewis1key--you're correct about YouTube™...it keeps it real--from the classic commercials, TV footage, and various other uploads, it's a good portrait of America and everyone's opinions count, whether we agree with them or not. Oh yeah, "Nyro" rhymes with "hero"!!

  • Thanks for posting this! Never heard it before. Long live You tube- I feel in many ways one of the last bastions of American democracy.

  • She really pushed the boundaries of pop music form. For that alone she should be revered.

  • Engpauloh, where did you come across these amazing photos???

  • The lanky guy walking with Laura, and the hidden guy hugging her fishnet stockinged legs on her balcony is Jim Fielder, bass player for the late sixties band Blood Sweat And Tears. She had a year-long relatiionship with him..

  • @engpauloh I think this song is great and I never even heard it before! Also considering Smile was not one of her best.

  • Awesome talent....oh how I miss this music....my coffee mornings will be less lonely now

  • Wonderful song, and lovely pictures, thanks! I wonder why this along with "Someone", and "Cap" were not recorded for "Smile"(which only has 8 songs.)

"Smile" is hard to get on CD now, I tried to purchase it from Amazon, but I had to buy it as MP3s. I hope it gets remastered, and re released soon, and it would be great if they used these three, even tho they're demos, and filled it out to 11 songs.

(Laura's demos are usually better than just about anyone else's finished tracks anyway!)

  • Can't stop listening to this song, wonderful!

  • Thank you, just discovered Laura, I'm captivated!

  • I should get the CDs today or tomorrow and hopefully the books before Thursday, when I leave on a business trip. I am going to lay aside War & Peace, which I am reading, to read her biography. I cannot wait another 900 pages of Tolstoy to learn more about this wonderful woman.

  • @DanLNigro

I didn't realize when I first answered your response that you're not old enough to have seen her growing up. You weren't even born when the photo booth pictures were taken. I'm reading Michele Kort's bio that's how I know this.

  • At 6:45-7:08 she's a dead ringer for Cher Sarkisian.

  • @DanLNigro

Thank you Danny. I envy you for having known her when she was growing up. I'll bet she was a delight, full of so much creative energy.

  • @Grisostomo06 Hello.. Laura's cousin Danny here. The pictures in the photo booth are Laura and our cousin Joel.

  • @docambra

I agree. I particularly like the pictures of Laura and what appears to be her and little brother mugging in the photo booth 4:38-5:28. I too am infatuated with Laura. She's in my blood.

According to biographer Michelle Kort she was named after the title character of the movie Laura about a police detective who becomes obsessed with the woman whose disappearance he is investigating which I find ironic.

  • I love how you played it twice. Great song / Great video . I love her,

  • THANK YOU !!!!!
