Yes the training has changed. And differences between lifters have increased, there are still many lifters who press big weights but also many who are relatively weak in the press. I read something that shoulder injuries increased after they got rid of the press, because lifters in general had weaker shoulders.

@skirts365 If what you say is true, it emphasizes the importance of leg drive, that he can put so much more weight overhead. It also makes me wonder about how his performance would be in pre-1972 weightlifting. Those guys could press huge weights, but also looked more barrell chested it seems. Has the training changed a lot since the C&P was eliminated?

Fastest start I ever saw. No contemplation, just stride to bar and put it up. Did I read wrong that all he could do in strict vertical press was 105 kilos? You have to have some arm strength to hold bar overhead to finish. Seems like he could do more than 105 in strict press. Anyone have any insight?

maybe his snatch was huge

thanks for the correction. I didn't get a chance to see the A session jerks and only heard of Aramnau's 236 jerk.
crazy that many people over 220.
-
actually the silver and bronze lifted 230, and the top 9 lifters all jerked OVER 220 so barnett would have goten 10th place in the jerk in the 2008 olympics.

2008 olympics silver medal lift in the 105's was what, 226? Not a whole lot more then this lift.
