You're so right, it isn't cute nor funny. People do the duck-face because it's their way of showing that they're goofy and have a fun personality or something. It's their "silly face" when in a group photo and the last resort if they can't think of anything else to do, or if they want to mimic some supermodel pose. It's annoying and unoriginal, but smiling is unoriginal too, I guess. I can't believe I'm just now finding out that there's a nick-name for this crap.
