Final Fantasy IV Walkthrough - Part 59

I take care of some loose ends before the final battle. Here is where I pick up Excalibur, obtain Odin as my summon to where I go to the Bahamut Cave in the moon.

why doesn't Odin attack you? When I fight him, he counts down and does this massive damage to my party.

@petsematarykeeper The fight against Odin has a time limit for his Zantetsuken attack. But in this game you have to figure how much time you have yourself, which makes it interesting. If you run out of time, he'll attack with Zantetsuken and you are dead.

I remember obtain Odin later in the game(by sheer mistake) just like you, but was he available earlier?

Also, I know you're not there yet, but do you end up receiving the Crystal sword?

He can be available after you kill the Giant of Babel or before that after the last crystal is stolen.
