A happy green monster. He's happy even when he dies. The box art, which can be seen in the main menu screen of the collection and on the back of the CD case, has a strange but cool realistic presence to it, sort of reminds me of the first stage of Earthworm Jim 2 for the Sega Genesis. I've also seen the title of this game being an abbreviation. It's debatable, really, since not all sources have it written that way, including the manual I have for this collection.

From the manual: "Rescue all the miners possible before running out of lives. One must locate a miner in each level before moving lower in the mine. Mine shafts extend vertically and horizontally deep into Mount Leone. Some dead end; others are blocked by walls. Some walls and surfaces glow blue; these contain magma deposits, molten lava behind the rock. Like lava rivers, magma deposits cost one a life, should one be careless enough to touch them. A heat-resistant raft floats on certain stretches of the lava river. It can carry R. Hero across the river when one lands on it. If R. Hero runs out of dynamite, he can burn through walls with his Microlaser Beam."

This is the farthest I've ever gotten in Hero. It's the strangest thing, really. I'm doing better in all of these games, yet I haven't played any of them for at least several years. Unfortunatly, the Microlaser is practically invisible in this video (due to quality of capture and framrate issues, of course). You got lucky there, little bat. I didn't know what to do in the last part of the video where I lost my last life; I thought it was possible to fly over that block.

  • I've been playing through H.E.R.O. for the PS2's Activision Anthology, do you know how many levels there are?

  • I'm pretty sure it goes on for an infinite number of stages, like nearly all games had back in the time. The farthest that you can select to start on the menu for A Collection of Activision Classics for the Atari 2600 on the Sony PlayStation is level 66, I believe.

  • plz man help me find a working rom for this game ....i luv this game but i dont have a atari .... :'( so sad .... i looked all over the net for this game n i nvr find a working rom plz help me ... thanx

  • There aren't any known Atari 2600 ROMs on the Internet for this game (or any others, for that matter), but it has appeared in several compliations released for various consoles. If you do want some sort of ROM downloaded to your computer, there is one available for the Activision Anthology for the Game Boy Advance, which I'm sure contains this game within its collection.

  • ight then ... thanx a hole lot man ... i saved my life

    lol

  • No problem.

  • Did you take a photograph of your TV screen showing the required score and then send it to Activision headquarters to get a merit patch?

  • im 31 from argentina and i remember this game was awesome. my brother 36 has a dynacom and this was the best game

  • One of the Best games ever. A friend of mine lost when he was going to save the last miner. He is 34 years old now and he says that even now, at least once a month, he remembers the day when he almost won this game!

  • I miss that game! I played it all the time.
