Walmart plans to move into four district locations starting at the end of the year, but not all Washingtonians are excited. The big box store promises to supply cheaper, healther food to some of D.C.'s most down trodden areas but some local store owners feel that their future is tied directly to Walmart's next move.
Attempts to contact Wal-Mart went unanswered, however in pervious statements the company has said they hope to help local small business near their four locations. With many store owners on Georgia Avenue doubting anyone can help them compete, retail consultant Will Ander says that while Walmart has in the past caused an uptick in foot traffic around their stores, in general independent stores are forced to move and make way for larger, chain establishments.
Here is my report from Georgia Avenue.
