A Canadian, laid off from their job in California quickly moves back to Canada, then finds they have to deal with the 401K retirement plan. They can't normally because they are no longer a resident of California - but Dan's company, Seabank Capital, can and does deal with this exact scenario all the time. Without Dan, they are typically forced to collapse the account and pay tax immediately.
Offshore reporting and compliance seems to have scared most of the other firms away from this aspect of the business.
