i was born on the same day as akeem olajuwan and detlef shrempf. january 21, 1963. (hope i spelled the names correctly!) thanks, awsidooger, for a wonderful post of a classic game!!
@cheerdiver -actually many leagues had the 3 pointer(at different distances) as an experimental rule in 1982-83. It became a rule for the enire year(including NCAA tournament play in 1986-87)
My favorite game in NCAA Tourney history. I was in 6th grade at the time and was heart broken when NC State won. But as it turned out, it was the best thing for college basketball, even though the game cost me 50 cents. (Which was big cash for a 12 year old. lol) Amazing the NC State outside shooting. They had 11 2nd half shots that went in. 1 was a FT. Of the 10 fgs, 8 were 3's or close to it, 1 was a 16 footer, and of course the dunk at the end.
I was 15 when this game was played and God it brought back so many great memories... I forgot just how great this game was... God Bless you Lorenzo and Coach V, you guys will Be remembered Forever by The Wolfpack Club.. Coach V, We will never, ever Give UP..Thanks For everything ZO & V...
It was only fitting that NCState won it all in the Pit... with all of UNM's wolf head logos all over the court, you know it had to be destiny... I'm a UNM Lobo that is an NCSU fan as well today because of this game... Go Lobos... Go Wolfpack!
I watched that whole thing. Man college basketball was boring without a shot clock and 3-point shot; so much better now. That game should have gone into OT. State was too lucky but I'm glad they won.

Made a mistake on an earlier post. Clock stoppage went into effect in 1993-94 and 90-91

34:29-34:41 Best moment in the history of the NCAA Tourney. Gotta love Jimmy V trying to find someone to hug!
