The Sands Of Kuwait was a pipe tune composed following the Gulf War 1991 By LCpl Gordon MacKenzie, to commemorate the involvement of the 1st Battalion Queen's Own Highlanders(Seaforth & Camerons), in the conflict.
The Tune was written whilst LCpl Mackenzie was attending his Pipe Majors Course at the Army School Of Piping in Edinburgh Castle, from September 1990 until April 1991.

I served with the 1st Bn Queens Own Highlanders (Seaforth & Camerons) in the first gulf war. This beautiful lament is a fitting tribute to the brave young men lost in action there. May God bless them all.

Chill out guys. Yes, Remembrance Day is for the war dead in Commonwealth countries, including Canada -- observed on 11/11, originally (and still in much of the world) called Armistice Day. I'm in the US, where we call 11/11 Veterans' Day, with a separate Memorial Day in late May specifically for those who died. The Sands of Kuwait was written by a (then) student at the army piping school in Edinburgh, in honor of the 1st Battalion Queen's Own Highlanders who fought in the 1991 war.

@fmrelay -- Thx for the info! I didn't know the b/ground of the song. Bagpipes and Kuwaiti sands seemed like a funny cultural mix! But I like the song; it sounds cool.
