This song was very popular with the soldiers in WW2 my wife told me. oh she is japanese

Last year I went to Itayanagi-machi in Aomori prefecture, and they play an instrumental version of this song over the town loudspeaker in the morning, noon, 5pm, and 8pm. The beginning does sound a lot America The Beautiful, but it's a great song!
