I recently uncovered a few gems from the 1973-74 and 1974-75 NBA seasons. These color game films once belonged to NBA player Elmore Smith. I purchased them and had them professionally transferred to DVD. They are silent but the fact that they are in color is a real bonus. If anyone else has any rare NBA footage and especially Milwaukee Bucks footage from 1975-83 please don't hesitate to contact me via PM or at brian_winters_fan_32@yahoo.com

  • Sorry I deleted lun3axe's question. Elmore is number 3.

  • Notice the Empty Seats at the Forum? That's because this was The Season that The Lakers would have finished That Season in the Basement!

Lakers finished Last in the Pacific Division in 1975.

  • Well this was also early in the season as well so that might have something to do with it. Plus I believe I took this right at the start of the game. We know how the LA crowds like to show up late. :-)

  • which one is kermit washington??

  • Not sure if he is in that clip but he wore number 24 with the Lakers.

  • This is really incredible stuff. I remember these years very vividly. I went to many Laker games in those years. That season of 74-75 was a pretty bad one. They didn't resemble the team that just two years earlier was in the championship with West and Chamberlain.

I am surprised the NBA doesn't have more of these games saved.

I could watch this stuff all day.

  • Well this footage was actually filmed by the Lakers for use as a coaches or scouting film. But it is true that the NBA did not do a great job of archiving a lot of actual broadcasts. But as much blame goes to the networks who just did things differently back then.

  • This is really some bad basketball. Warriors won it all that year.

  • holy shit 17 blocks

  • Same here. Staples Center is basically one big luxury suite (c'mon, THREE LEVELS of suites?:??), with an overpriced lower bowl and an upper balcony with shitty sightlines. One of the worst arenas in two leagues (NBA, NHL). I miss the Forum too, in a big way.

  • I believe the Warriors won the NBA championship this year 74-75. Just think about it for a second, the Warriors were champions and the Lakers were in the basement, boy have things changed. Warriors have been a doormat ever since Rick Barry left the Warriors after the 77-78 season.

  • I loved the Forum!! Ever since the Lakers moved to Staples Center I haven't gone to a single game. Mostly because between parking, concessions and ticket prices, you gotta be a millionaire to afford it!!

  • yes youre right.

  • Probably so. But you know, it was just perfect. Finishing in the Basement that year was a Blessing for us. Then, Jack Kent Cooke got a little motivated, and got Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the Off-Season after this Basement Season.

But, it was really Magic Johnson that made the Lakers "The Team Of The 1980's". And it was Magic, that talked Kareem to stay an extra 5 Years he did playing for the Lakers.

    Kareem almost retired in 1984.
