@AmericanEvita Hi AmericanEvita. I also detected a similar timbre to Beverly Sills. Sills could have sung this quite beautifully as it's a coloratura showpiece. Sills sang German very well and I love Mozart (Zauberflote & concert arias), Schubert Lieder and Strauss concert arias.

her german is nearly not to understand.

@radaphhesig what?

The singing voice of this soprano - Patrice Michaels - sounds similar to that of Beverly Sills. I thought it was Sills & was surprised to discover it wasn't. What a beautiful voice. This is from a German opera by Salieri (Der Rauchfangkehrer) which also surprised me since Salieri, an Italian, composed mostly Italian operas. The Viennese of this period enjoyed Italian opera; however it makes sense that Salieri also composed German operas as Mozart had done with Seraglio & Zauberflote.

@worldvote I agree with you, only the emperor was Franz II (of the Holy Roman Empire) later Franz I of the Austrian Empire if this was written after 1792. Franz Joseph became emperor in 1849 and reigned till 1916. And if this was composed before 1790, it was the Emperor Joseph II who died in 1790 (the emperor in "Amadeus"). We owe much to the Habsburgs for making Vienna a cultural capital of Europe. Unfortunately, the present "republican" government is afraid of the Habsburgs.

I too have searched far and wide, high and low for this beautiful work. Finally now I have access to music that will give tremendous enjoyment to opera lovers everywhere.

This is what the world needs - more salieri, and less mozart! I love mozart but enough's enough!
