The current Vice President of the United States and President of the United States Senate is Joe Biden.

While vice presidents used to regularly preside over the Senate, modern vice presidents have done so only rarely—vice presidents usually only preside to swear in new senators, during joint sessions, and when casting a tie-breaking vote. The Senate chooses a president pro tempore to preside in the vice president's absence. Modern presidents pro tempore, too, rarely preside over the Senate. In practice, the junior senators of the majority party typically preside in order to learn Senate procedure.

lol, she actually got this one right. The vp IS in charge of the Senate. If u recall correctly, Dick Cheney ran the Senate.

It sounds like she's trying to "dumb down" the position to us so we can understand it...yet I walk away without any actual knowledge of what the position is or why she would be good at it....

So the Vice President is the president's best friend and gets a few perks??

@chevynut71570 say that to obama and you will be called a racist

@TheOZBehindCurtain Im not saying that the VP doesnt have influence, yes the VP can influence the senate and help influence policy change. I know the tie braking vote can be important im just trying to say that's the only authority the VP has, if the VP tick off the senate then the influence could be gone. Im saying the VP can LEAD the senate to water but it cant MAKE them drink. Palin said MAKE the changes im saying that the VP can really only INFLUENCE change.

@bokunobaka Try not to down play the importance of a tie breaking vote. When the legislature is closely divided that vote can determine legislative issue, appointment of officers and committees. The VP does work closely with house members. Just because you hate Palin does not mean everything she says is wrong and I'm tired of arguing implications and tangents in an attempt to discredit what was said in the video. She is correct end of story deal with it and move on.

@bokunobaka Art. 1 §3. The VP is the President of the senate. That is a position of power, unless you think the President has no power until he uses a veto. No one said the VP tells the senate what to do. Why are you inserting arguments that were not made in the video or myself? I got my information from my political science degree and laws school.

@TheOZBehindCurtain Where in the constitution does it say that the VP has any power in the senat other than a tie breaking vote. The senate doesnt have to do anything the Vp says, unless its a tie breaking vote the senate can ignore the Vp. the Vps duties are getting the tallies of the votes for the electoral college's and opening them in the senates presence and breaking senate ties. i Got this from 3w.senate.gov/artandhistory/hi
story/common/briefing/Vice_Pre sident.htm
wait...isn't the vp in charge of how much marshmallows go into the 1st cup of cocoa? o.O
