this will sound paranoid but.......a few years ago i thought my phone was being tapped. I kept getting a clicking sound on the line (like when someone picks up another phone in the house to listen) only there wasn't anyone else here. I asked the phone co (verizon) about it and they said ..."your phone could be tapped, but we can't tell you that without a court order" I guess caution is the word for the day, as we clearly live in a survailance (spelling?) society. Orwell saw it coming.

I worked as a senior software designer at one of the worldwide largest companies specialized in building text message switches. They did a project end 2000/begin 2001 that created a tap that allowed reading all text messages going through the system. This project was done for one of the major telecom companies in the US & worldwide, because the US government required this.
