My new test cell. It's two norwegan 1 krone. Close spacing, paperthin. Soldered wires to the coins. They are just held together by the cork piece. The cork piece also make the whole thing float on a water surface, so the coins always have the right depth in the water. Too high up - less water sucked in by the cell, too deep - the steam is converted back to water before it reaches the surface. The coin cell needs to be started first time in water with a hint of vinegar, so the reaction can start and build up a little oxide layer inside the coins. Then the cell can be placed in ordinary tapwater. And finally the amp draw stabilize at a couple of amps, very steady. But in the drive-in faze, the amps fluctuates very much. I will test this in my car soon, in an open bath, perhaps in the airfilter house. Because if I use a hose, much steam will convert to water before it reaches the intake.

  • I have the coin cell running several hours, and it's actually very stable. It settles about 3 amps and produce steam of 40ml/hour in 11,5 volts.

I assume that the ratio will be about 50ml/hour in 14 volts in my car. Not so much, but I will test the cell anyway in my car.
