Vyjayanthimala's grace in movements is never equaled by Hema. That is for sure.

Classical Dancing is one distinction of the Indian Culture. Looking at these dances makes me proud. V/mala is as always super. V/mala is passionate, and it shows in her facial expression, and body language. Its not a dance, its in her blood. While Hema is a great dancer, but somehow she lacks V/mala's passion.
Just a note though: Where is Waheeda and Rajestree?

@thethrone such amazing steps, its like a heart beat. I am Native/Pueblo/Aztec, the motions are very simaliar. So beautifull. Alarippu , has the same steps as my native brothers here in New Mexico. 1:32/1:64 beats!!!! How does one learn... where do i go?

@KRN64 alarippu emphasizes arm and neck movements as well as basic footwork.. which is what Vyjanthimala does in this video. Thillana is a very advanced piece involving intricate footwork with various speeds, poses, facial expressions, etc. It is usually done towards the end of the program by advanced dancers. You can search on youtube to find examples.
