Cosby has a point. That is why I am in college working on my degree. I graduate in May 2012. I don't take Brown v Board of Education for granted. It is important for me to do get an education. That is why I speak proper English. I don't listen to most hip-hop. It is simply dysfunctional. People like Li'l Wayne are a disgrace to African-Americans. We need more people like Cornell West, Bill Cosby, Tavis Smily, Neil Degrasse Tyson, etc.

110% Real. Most of the people saying he's an Uncle Tom must be ignorant idiots. Most people in the NAACP spend too much time making every thing racial, instead of being real and focus on the deep problems of blacks. Every black person needs to hear this.....too bad most today are too ignorant to even comprehend what he's saying. But as long as other decent blacks do the best they can to help, then there may be hope. But then again, how do you help people who don't want to be helped?

@SouthParkDEA Cosby was talking this stuff 25 years ago. His comedy and his TV show showed examples of what healthy families looked like, and how parents should take action when it came to teaching children responsibility and the importance of education. Now he's old and he can get on a mic and saw whatever he feels like. Most of it is truth.

If Mr. Cosby was railing against white folk then I bet there would be 1,000,000 views cause we need drama instead of responsibility - this number represents one million, but for you who can't read the word either then ask some one.

There has been debate about whether or not the AAVE should be considered an inferior dialect. Some say that African Americans and white Americans should embrace this language because to not do so means one social group is dominating another. What is English now? African Americans broke their backs building this country by hand, enduring incomprehensible suffering and oppression. Their language isn't valid? Let's ask ourselves why. Why can't a person speaking their dialect "get anywhere?"

@evergreenstater BS. All popular music is dysfunctional, especially self-congratulating "patriotic" music of any sort. I like Lil' Wayne. Am I a disgrace to African-Americans? I'm white as they come, and more educated than most. I choose not to speak proper English, and to swear when I feel like it. This has not kept me out of gainful employment at reputable companies. Conformance and abandoning your heritage and affinities is not the key to equality. It is the key to subservience.

Whites are also suffering from gross anti-intellectualism... see evangelicals, MTV, etc...they just get away with it. "You know that George from Texas? Not much upstairs, no grammar whatsoever, but what a quirky, quaint accent! I'd like to have a beer with him and elect him president." Meanwhile Obama speaks stage-standard English at all functions, and he's still a Kenyan terrorist. I like to think I get both sides here: there's a self-inflicted element and an external element to this problem.

@evergreenstater As a Canadian I have to ask, why is it that blacks in the USA like Cornell West so much? He doesn't seem to have done all that much scholarship, and comes across as someone who has gained a reputation for telling black people what many of them want to hear, but in round about in fancy ways. Yet they seem to ignore someone like Thomas Sowell who by all measure a far more accomplished.
