@djairman2345 Because they were put away in storage for many years. Probably 30 years or more. The grease protects the wood and metal from the elements.
-
I hope you have that recoil rubber pad...
-
@workensmart Why the hell do they come like that? I bought mine a few weeks ago and the grease is an inch thick!
-
@vonnieglen wasnt the terribly long barrel put on it because of trench warfare?
-
@jsisrael130 don't buy one if you need help taking it apart. Kerosene is used in space heaters and lamps lmao.
-
@workensmart where could i find this so called "kerosene"? and is it complicated to take this gun apart? is there some sort of manual to that? please reply o.O i'm gunna buy me one too
-
@jsisrael130 The Mosin is a .30 caliber but the bullet is different so I wouldn't try it unless you want a face full of metal when the rifle explodes.
-
@workensmart ...oh! i was also wondering, can this rifle also shoot a .30 calibre?
-
@workensmart where could i get this "kerosene"....and take the rifle down you mean take it apart? is that hard o.o?
-
@wootwoot409 That is called cosmoline. It was put on there to make sure the metal parts of the rifle don't rust. You need to take the whole rifle down and soak the metal parts in kerosene to remove the cosmoline. Thats just how old surplus rifles are.
I love these rifles I just got one thet other day its very clean but its a pain to get all that thick oil off LOL.

You can use some solvent but have to be careful about the finish on the wood. Sometimes it helps to use a heat gun or hair dryer or even put the parts on a tray in the oven on low heat or in your car or pick-up on a hot summer day.
