http://www.tweaktown.com Earlier this week we visited the GIGABYTE headquarters here in Taipei and visited them to check out some USB 3.0 versus USB 2.0 performance numbers. GIGABYTE bought a Buffalo branded USB 3.0 hard drive enclosure and hooked it up to its new P55A-UD6 motherboard which comes complete with USB 3.0 support, powered by a new NEC controller. GIGABYTE installed a Kingston SSD inside the Buffalo enclosure and we ran some tests. First of all we show you standard Windows file copy performance and then we fire up HD Tach and run the numbers comparing the new SuperSpeed USB technology against the now aging USB 2.0. • @zaspan1 its called a bench>.>

  • @JanuGamer What is your the actual drive read and write speed? USB 3.0 allows 5gbits; but most external hard drives can only output to max 3gbits (except SSD); most likely your internal drive can only output 20mbps.

The only theoretically time you can output at maximum 5gbits is between 2 SSD drives via usb 3.0

  • My "My Passport Essential SE 1TB 3.0" Gives 20mb/s when i Copied a 8.77GB from my Internal Drive to it via USB 2.0 port.. Why its 20mb/s...

Previously i was having same speed on Elements SE 500GB via 2.0..I am regretting it why i bought it if i'll gona have the same speed.....Any Solution?

  • For people who can't see the point of super high speed transfers let me explain. I run a business where I'm currently backing up 8GB+ of data a day and it takes around 25 minutes on USB 2.0, that's 2 and a half hours a week based on a 6 day working week. USB 3.0 will reduce that to less than half as much. It might not matter if you're an average user but to data demons like me it means i can spend more time doing things i want and not working!

  • Messy desk...

  • @Tomislav005

Well, that's the first purchase ever of Gigabyte product by me. Not a good impression....

  • @KatiushaVN4 My motherboard is Gigabyte and it works perfectly, don't judge a company by a single item.

  • Kids, have fun with this techy stuff now! Don't you get hurt and come cry to your ma. ^^"

  • Change company name to ''Terabyte''
