Media Composer 5 adds Native support for RED files.
Please go to: Avid.com/RED for current Information.

Michael Phillips shows us the current workflow for using media and metadata from the RED camera with a Mac-based Avid. This tutorial specifically shows the RedLine automation for creating a metadata (ALE) and quicktime reference export for import into your Avid Media Composer or Avid Symphony. Available with version 3.34 of Red Alert/Redline onwards.

  • Seems so simple on here... I just went through a RED nightmare, trying to figure out the workflow... I was getting proxy this and that with our shoot, had to just downconvert all the files to 1080 QTs and import... only took three days before I was up and running, haha.

Now, with these QT Ref files, do they just import like P2 files (meaning, instantly there)? And do they 'stick'? P2 files unstick if you don't consolidate to a drive.

    Thanks for any info.

  • While still valid, this isn't the best workflow. I suggest using REDCINE-X or MetaFuze. The Avid/RED landing page has a White Paper on the topic.
