Back on April 14, 1981, a local TV station aired footage of the 1st Shuttle landing combined with the Academy Awards musical score winner "Chariots of Fire" of the same year, and produced one of the most powerful and iconic memories of my childhood.
I have never been able to find the original footage, and requests to the TV station have gone unanswered for over a year. Thus I decided in commemoration of the final Space Shuttle landing to create my own version, encompassing the entire flight and hopefully capturing some of the feelings at the time.
The shuttle was (and still is) an incredible technological feat. The thought that you could fly back in from space instead of dropping helplessly like a rock as before was an intensely powerful idea at the time, man fully mastering his physical and celestial world.
Thank you NASA, for an entire lifetime of dreams.
