I contacted Ms. Grubers former agent and was informed that due to serious back problems she had withdrawn from performing. It makes me very sad, as hers was a very rare voice indeed.

her last performances as Funcialla were awful sad to say, great voice but all over the place -- all the things she went though seemed to have taken their toll, but hey that is just my opinion.

The great Andrea Gruber had gastric-bypass surgery and is now slim and, I assume, healthy. Her career is back on track. She's had to overcome drug addiction and obesity. She is a rare talent; I hope that she can remain vital and productive.

She hasn't sung there since a run of Turandots in early 2007. She was supposed to sing Lady Macbeth the following season but never quite made it.
