Former TWC OCM Dennis Smith explains how weather radar works. He tells us that the radar send out radiation and that when it hits precipitation, it's reflected back toward the transmitter and that this echo shows the operater of the radar the strength of the precipitation. For television, radar has been enhanced, which is done by assigning different shades of color, for example, the light green is light rain.
