House of Musical Traditions in Takoma Park, MD (just outside of Washington DC) is a dealer for Breedlove acoustic guitars and mandolins. Here we have Mark Sylvester, one of our teachers, demonstrating the Ed Gerhard Signature J15 guitar. The Ed Gerhard Signature is a state of the art fingerstyle instrument. Its volume, balance and projection are unequaled. Fingerstyle Legend Ed Gerhard is a true fingerstyle master, and Breedlove has collaborated with Ed in making guitars that are perfect for his broad expressive range. Ed demands a guitar that has a big, well defined bass, without excessive overtones in the lower midrange. His peerless technique requires a guitar with treble frequencies that are clear and crisp without being brittle. The award- winning (including Acoustic Guitar Magazine's Player's Choice Award) Ed Gerhard Master Class Model remains a favorite among players and the luthiers at Breedlove.

This model features an extremely graduated Sitka Spruce top, Indian Rosewood back & sides, jumbo body, Ebony Fingerboard & Bridge, Koa binding, Abalone Rosette, Gotoh tuners and JLD bridge truss with pinless bridge.

List Price on this model is $5,869 and includes a hardshell case. Please contact HMT directly for discounted price and availability at hmtmail@hmtrad.com or 301-270-9090, or visit our website at www.hmtrad.com.

On this video Mark is playing two original selections from his CD "Music For Solo Guitar." The first is called "American Gypsy Pt 2;" the second is "I'll Not Be Weary." Tab for these songs is available at www.marksylvester.net.

Video produced by Glenn Tucker with audio engineered by HMT's in-house engineer and pro audio repairman Trevor Higgins.

  • HOW do you get that sound? Is that mic'd or DI? IF so what are you running through?

  • @PanchoStern All of our videos are done with mics, to get the most realistic acoustic sound. We used Neuman TLM103s through a tube preamp and with a DBX compressor set in stereo.

  • That thing is so loud and full of tone.

  • I played on an Ed Gerhard Breedlove before and loved the sound of it. I remember the wood being much darker though. The guitar was around $2500.

  • @musicaltraditions Thank you so much for that info.

  • I just wanna know what make those microphones are he's using. By the way they are placed, it helps the tonal effect of the guitar itself during recording.

  • Hi all, Can anybody tell me what music did he play in the beginning ? Its so so melodious. Is it from any song ???? Curious to learn it as its so beautiful to hear it. Soothes the mind. Please if any body can make a video tutorial of what he played , it would be great to learn . Thanks in advance.

  • What you play in the first half is simply fantastic! Is there a tab I can learn from available? If so could you send it to me? I would appreciate it greatly. thanks Mike
