The holier-than-thou meditators wouldn't meditate if it were illegal to do so - upon pain of incarceration or death if discovered doing so. Entheogens require a courage that is almost entirely lacking in every other experiential path. It is "putting your money where your mouth is" in a real deal sort of way. No kid gloves, no zafu to rest one's mental arse on, and no second thoughts once the journey begins.

Entheogens + meditation + courage = deep spiritual realization, aka: Gnosis.

There is a battle....one between the rational, logical portion of the brain and the "other" part of your brain. The other part is what is artistic (color, sound, music....general low level intelligence). This "low level intelligence" is actually smarter than the "high level intelligence".
