can you play iphone video with it
-
@italiansky did you ever get this sorted, i have the same situation as you, no USB in the console but i do have the phone cradle, i can't see or control the iphone's ipod through the idrive. i am guessing i would need the USB adapted in the centre console to make it all work as in the video. :-( £612 for the retrofit!

it was possible in 2006 idrive!
Hello again.
On a 09 335i w/Nav, when I plug in an iPhone to the center console using the BMW cable (USB & Mini Jack) it works just fine.
However, I also want to plug in my iPod to the glove compartment USB. Can this be done? It's not recognizing the iPod at all. Even when I disconnect the iPhone and use the BMW cable to plug either the iPhone or iPod...the car won't see it.
Thanks

Hi, I am pretty sure that only one ipod/iphone/itouch can be controlled at a time. I haven't tried what you are talking about.
I have only used the glovebox usb for mp3 song import, which by the way sounds better than any i-device I have ever used. The bass is especially more pronounced when songs are played from the car's hard drive. Try it sometime.. import a few songs & play them, then play those same ones on the ipod.. nowadays I only use the car's internal songs collection for music.

Interesting. I have iTunes so not real sure how to get MP3's out of the 4's iTunes uses. How many songs can the car hold?
Just found out the pins are broken on the USB. Brand new car...

Sorry to hear that. To export songs, all you have to do is highlight/select them in itunes, and drag right out of itunes into a usb drive folder. Then, the import is easy, as long as you know to click the "Option" next to the MMI once you are in the AUX IN USB page on the Nav screen. The trick is, use the same USB drive every time and you won't have a new folder name created in the car every time you import.
As far as songs? I have about 400 mp3s loaded and it still has 9GB free in the car.

When you come back to the car after leaving the car...do you have to manually link the phone and car, or once it's paried it does it automatically? Thx

bluetooth access is done automatically once paired.
