I never realized that Johnny Horton is credited with co-writing this classic song. Thanks for including such a nice photo of the label. He was more of a talent than most of us who loved his 'Sink the Bismark' and 'North to Alaska' ever knew. It's a terrible shame that his early demise kept us from having many more years of Horton songs and performances. But, his contributions to music history shouldn't be overlooked or forgotten. Again... sincere thanks for posting.

RIP Johnny Horton. Just read that he had premonitions of his death, just like Patsy Cline did. Eerie.. RIP :(

Now that I think of it, I do recall this version from my childhood. My Dad was a huge Johnny Horton fan, and we had to listen to his music wherever we went. I grew tired of North to Alaska over time, but this particular song struck me as gold. I have always liked this version more than any other.

Grady Martin on guitar and Bill Black on bass. Good crew for Johnny on this session.
