Martha Wainwright performs Lowlands Away at the Barbican Hall in London on 28 July 2008.

Martha was taking part in a live performance of Hal Willner's Rogue's Gallery - Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs and Chanteys.

The song Lowlands Away was included on the 2006 released CD of Rogue's Gallery and was originally recorded by Martha's brother, Rufus Wainwright, and mother, Kate McGarrigle.

The concert also included performances from Martin Carthy, Eliza Carthy, Julie Fowlis, Gavin Friday, Baby Gramps, Neil Hannon, Ed Harcourt, Robyn Hitchcock, Shane MacGowan, Tim Robbins, David Thomas, Suzanne Vega and Norma Waterson.

  • I know that this was a long time ago, but you don't happen to have the second song she sung? I love this so much and would love to hear the other one too :)

  • Sadly, I don't have Martha's second song (Grey Funnel Line). Everything I have from the Rogue's Gallery is up on YouTube already. Glad you enjoyed Lowlands Away!

  • I think the Sandy Dillon number was Leave Her Johnny. Totally brill. Longing to hear it again too. Nice video thanks.

  • That's correct. Sandy also sang Bully In The Alley with Ed Harcourt & Gavin Friday, a clip of which is included in my Rogue's Gallery compilation video.

  • Thanks for answering and for letting me know the title of it! I just remembered both were really good and yes love lowlands away so thanks a lot for that!

  • This was a very amazing evening! Thanks for posting this. Favourite moment was probably Neil Hannon being upstaged by a saw - and this comes from a huge Divine Comedy fan!!

This song - Lowlands - is awesome. Alasdair Roberts does a cracking version of it.

  • Thanks great performance

  • Thanks so much for this! T'was such a lovely magical night! SO many special artists and great to see them being devoid of ego's for one night and come together in celebration and love of pirates! Please post more if you have! Especially Sandy Dillon's piano rendition or something by Tim Robbins, Neil Hannon or Norma Waterson! Anything really! Pleeease! ;-)
