  • is that a WD400BB?

  • No, I can't remember what drive I had in that computer. I know it wasn't anything bigger than 120gigs.

But the sound would be common amongst any manufacture for this type of failure. My best guess is the drive head broke inside and that is what is creating the clicking sound.

  • You can make music with that sound!!!!

  • Hard Drives unfortunately are the most unreliable things you can trust your data to. The question is not 'will it break' but rather 'when will it break'. Hope the SSD will come in the near future.

  • @doxent i think floppy disks are more unreliable (opinion) less space more failing and losing info is as simple as sliding a magnet over it

  • My WD200 Protege drive sounded exactly like this (I have a video of it), so :D

  • @endocomar93 if its a real tiny "click" then thats ur heads parking...perfectly normal but it drives some people absolutely batty

  • My click of death isn't this frequent at all and doesn't sound so shallow like this and have been clicking for like a year... wait a minute! maybe it's not a click of death!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • In fact, hard drives are known to be very reliable data storage devices indeed. USB keys are too, but you are right to some degree as both of them have the habit of suddenly failing and taking all your data with it.

  • Well, floppy disks are reliable when you take good care of them. They only fail if they take an impact or if you remove them while the drive is still moving.

  • Lol floppy disk mate

  • oh, ok i have a WD400BB that looks almost like that one sounds the same, and it is supposed to be an 40gb but reads 20gb even when i formatted it to, i don't like western digital to much i prefer Seagate with 5 year warranty have 20 of them going 24/7 for an year still going strong!
