I'm afraid not. Mom wasn't interested in getting us out of there or divorcing him or doing anything else to rock the boat, and she didn't want us getting him in trouble with the police or otherwise rocking the boat either. So I just had to tough it out, keep my grades up and enlist with the Air Force as soon as I could. That's one way to get out of a godawful house, I guess.
It never really felt like a home because of him; it was just a place where I ate and slept. Pretty rotten deal there.

i watched this in my english, i was so scared, it reminds me of chucky :S
she can't speak out because she's afraid her abuser will find out and then hurt her even more. he's controlling her life, so therefore in control of her.
it's unbelievable some people are sick enough to do this, let alone to kids who don't understand what's going on or don't know how to get themselves out of these situations.

The father's eyes tell the story too. It seems like everytime he looks at her, he's fixing her with the old Inquisitor's stare, as if to say "defy me and you WILL regret it".
Hell, my second stepfather was a real abusive bastard...mostly belittling and psychological, occasionally physical. And I have to say it's amazing how an abusive parent or stepparent gets inside your head your like. You don't want it to happen, but you have to live with the bastard. So it happens anyway, you know?
