This is the 1st in what will be a series of videos addressing the issue of transgender. It will be similar to the Feminism and Prostitution series on the starving flame, in that it will be a long discussion in short pieces.
I agree with you. One of the main elements of true oppression is not knowing you're oppressed (due to it being that deep rooted and systemic). With that being said, often times oppressed people will speak on behalf of their oppression and support it. Just because a person lives with oppression doesn't mean their understanding of how it works is necessarily right.
That is a strawman arguement. I didn't say that people who come to conclusions based off direct experience are always reactionary. What I said was "SOMETIMES people who opperate off direct experience are the worst reactionary people..." and also that "there are limitations to what direct experience can teach you." It does make sense, that's why you had to misrepresent it. Thanks for the comment.
I like the distinctions but it does come off (unintentionally) as non-oppressed people who aren't using direct experience have the distance to make good judgments. Just because I've seen your videos before, I know that's not what you're trying to say.
Everyone with direct experience concerning a particular issue needs to be involved in the conversation because those experiences will be what lead to a greater understanding and more agreed upon solution. We all need ownership of the solution.
