Is a Mormon a True Christian? Joel Osteen is asked this question on National Television.

Even Gordon Hinckley knew that Christians and Mormons do not believe in the same Jesus.

"In bearing testimony of Jesus Christ, President Hinckley spoke of those outside the Church who say Latter-day Saints 'do not believe in the traditional Christ.' 'No, I don't. The traditional Christ of whom they speak is not the Christ of whom I speak.'" (LDS Church News June 20, 1998).

Al Mohler asked "Is Mormonism just a distinctive denomination of Christianity?" He answered it this way:

"The answer to that question is definitive. Mormonism does not claim to be just another denomination of Christianity. To the contrary, the central claim of Mormonism is that Christianity was corrupt and incomplete until the restoration of the faith with the advent of the Latter-Day Saints and their scripture, The Book of Mormon. Thus, it is just a matter of intellectual honesty to take Joseph Smith, the founder of Mormonism, at his word when he claimed that true Christianity did not exist from the time of the Apostles until the reestablishment of the Aaronic and Melchizedek priesthoods on May 15, 1829."

  • @BeInnocuous Making the bible the standard is not replacing God because God has intended it to be his word that measures all things. The Sword of the Holy Spirit is the word of God. God did give us the Spirit to teach us all things and the means the Spirit uses is God's word. We are taught that false Christs and Spirits are all about and that we are to test them according to the word of God. Mormonism fails the test of scripture. Even Hinckley understood he follows a different Jesus.

  • @scotth222222 You have the choice and unfortunately it is wrongly made. That is why you are in danger and I am pleading with you to turn away from error that leads to Hell and to the true Jesus. Jesus said you must not only follow him but the true him. He warned of false Christs. He said you will die in your sin unless you believe he is who he says he is (John 8:24). The true Jesus is the eternal God from everlasting to everlasting and creator of all things including the angels and satan.

  • @BeInnocuous You are to stop sinning now according to the LDS prophets. Now and never ever sin again. Have you done that? Alma 11:37-38 states you cannot be saved in your sin. If you have sinned today then you are still in sin. Deny all ungodliness, not just "some altogether... others not so much". Mormon teaching is not that in the end we will all come unto a perfect man but that right here and now you must be perfect (present tense) as your father in heaven is (Matt 5:48)

  • @BeInnocuous Have you done everything he commands? According to Moroni 10:32 and your prophets doing everything command means denying all ungodliness which they describe as to not sin at all in anyway at all. Any sin in thought, word or deed would be,,, well... ungodly! Moroni 10:32 is a command. Have you kept it fully?

  • @GotThirstDrinkFreely The scriptures state the choice is mine to decide who to serve: (Matthew 6:24, Joshua 24:15). If an individual is doing all that he can to truly seek and serve Christ, I believe Christ will find a way for that individual to be saved.

  • @BeInnocuous Christ did not give us harder commandments. He explained how the commandments were intended to be understood from the beginning. Please read James and notice he does not saw that Faith and works save. He points out that true faith saves. True faith will result in works but it is not the works that save it is the faith that saves. We are saved by faith apart from works but the faith that saves apart from works will always result in works. Works are the result, not the cause.

Yes we are to stop sinning all together. This is what is meat to be born again. Christ taught the same thing as you already ref'd. But you forget that in the Atonement we are sinless. Thought the Atonement of Christ our sin become his. We are free of our sins. Living the teachings of Christ will help us to stop sinful acts. Some altogether... other not so much. But in the end we will all come unto a perfect man.

The Pharisees could not find it because they put their tradition of what the scriptures said over that which God taught. The Spirit is key. Whiteout it the bible is just another book. Making the bible your standard is replacing God with it.

So what is the right way to read the bible? What is the final authority on things? Your opinion? Joseph Smith? Me? Your Pastor? I say it is God... and God gave us the Spirit to teach us all things John 14:26

  • @BeInnocuous You err in not knowing what your prophets teach. This verse teaches that you must stop sinning completely. Have you read Miracle of Forgiveness by prophet Spencer Kimball? Have you read the Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith? They teach on this verse as well as many others such as Matt 5:48. You are trying to de-emphasize where emphases is intended by Smith, Young, etc...

  • @GotThirstDrinkFreely

It first say "come unto Christ, and be perfected in him" Then it goes on about denying youslef of all ungodliness... And then it restates "that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ"

I think you are trying to put emphases where none is intended. If we come unto Christ and are perfected in him is that not the same as denying all ungodliness as we are born again?
