WORCESTER, Mass. -- Thousands of firefighters from across the state, around the nation, and Canada, were in Worcester Thursday, honoring Firefighter Jon Davies, killed last week while searching a burning building.
Forty-three-year-old Jon Davies died December 8th when he and partner Brian Carroll were trapped as the building at 49 Arlington Street collapsed. They were looking for someone believed to be inside who was later found safe.

This man died trying to save the lives of people he never met. As a fellow firefighter, I absolutely believe this "hoopla" is necessary. Maybe an event like this will remind people of the dangers inherent in our line of work and the sacrifices that we are willing to make to help complete strangers. Not to mention that 70% of us are volunteers and serve for little or no money. Hardly overpaid.
