Jesus Christ Superstar.1973 movie.
Damned For All Time-Blood Money

Filmed primarily in Avdat, the Dead Sea and the Bell Caverns in Israel, Jesus Christ Superstar is a 1973, Oscar-nominated film adaptation of the rock opera of the same name, based on the conflict between Judas and Jesus in the last weeks before the crucifixion of Jesus. The film was directed by Norman Jewison. Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson were nominated for two 1974 Golden Globe Award for their portrayals of Jesus and Judas, respectively.

Though it attracted criticism from some religious groups, the film was generally well received.

  • "So, you're making a musical about the last days of Jesus Christ."

    "That's right!"

"...and you need -how- many tanks?"

    "Five!"

    "........aaaalrighty..."

  • If Judas really did have Carl's voice, I can't blame Lady Gaga for being in love with him.

"Oh, and could you throw in a couple of jets as well? That would be super."

    "*Sigh*"

  • love that guitar intro

  • the best judas ever

  • dada dada dada dada batman lol sorry had to :)

  • @Zebred2001 Well said. I agree the last number caps the meaning. I also agree that Judas is portrayed in such a way in this production that, in my belief, most everyone can relate to him on some level.

  • @WRI2012 Jewison's art direction choices or style for this production do emphasize the timeless relevance of this story. Judas' depiciction here (brilliantly played by Carl Anderson) is of a kind of modern everyman - sophisticated, worldly and cynical (see Judas' last number - Superstar). He is all of us who, though are hearts are in the right place and we affect a spiritual life somehow have missed the true spiritual mystery of Jesus himself.

  • @AnimeBeatlesFan24 You could take that idea and stretch it to modern times representing the military industrial complex. What do you think would happen if Christ came in the 21st century? I really think that's what this entire production emphasized.

  • @Zebred2001 That is a biblically correct view, but he did have a choice, though his pride would not allow him to walk away from his fate. Judas was a zealot looking for a military coop. His betrayal of Christ was based on the the disappointment he felt over the passiveness of Jesus. Though he is portrayed in this video as being afraid of Rome's occupation and retribution at Christ. He wanted a military messiah and revolution, he never really bought into the whole Son of God thing .

  • @NoxorionZ i would think that they are roman and show the might of rome, because the temple guards are armed only with spears

  • @NoxorionZ This production emphasises the old idea that Judas, rather than being a complete bad guy was in fact the unwitting instrument of God's plan.
