I'm just saying here...How many endangered species lived in New Orleans before Katrina? And isn't the government paying for a whole bunch of new levees there? What's the difference?
From the vids it looks pretty far, maybe 60-70 feet. Thats gonna get really expensive and I wouldn't doubt that the residents would have to lose more of their yard to meet slope ordinances. In my township you can't build to more than a 1:1 slope. If they had to truck sand in to fill it in, all bets are off as of price. Tens of millions easily.
lol... troll... all these personal attacks when I'm presenting honest factual assessments. Its no bother, I wouldn't build my house near a cliff, especially one built on beach sand (like this) vs. rock, but again, that involves research and analysis. The law protecting 300 beetles is rather stupid, but those homeowners are screwed if they are going to wait for the government to help them.
You really are dumber than shit. First off the house was built 60 feet away from the original cliff edge 18 years ago. I'm fairly sure all required and appropriate surveys were taken. At about :45 into the clip the owner explains how 12 feet of yard collapsed OVERNIGHT! At that rate the 60 feet of yard would have disappeared long ago ergo something unforeseen has changed to increase the rate of erosion. Are you seriously this mentally fucking handicapped that you can't comprehend this?
Are you 14 years old or have just never bought land before? You can absolutely do core samples to determine the integrity of soil, finding virgin compacted soil lines and the like. We get that kind of engineering work done every time my family buys land for development. Its not cheap, but its not prohibitively expensive and someone building that house on a cliff should have had it done, even 20 yrs ago. Its not a new science. Look it up before you start slinging "stupids" around.
You are a special kind of stupid, aren't you? Obviously this guy did his research but something must have happened recently that cause the incredibly rapid erosion. Look again at the part where he mentions that severl feet were lost in just few month. Erosion like take over the past 18 years would have destroyed the house a long time ago. And no one out of state is going to pay for it asshat. Costs would be most likely covered by local govt, state at the most. Fucking mouthbreather.
When you buy a house, you inspect the roof because even though it has a 30 year life span, you want to know if you are going to have to replace in 5, 10, 20 or 30 years. When you buy a piece of land with a cliff at the bank, you DO THE HOMEWORK to find out if that cliff is stable and if its going to collapse, 5, 10, 20 or 30 yrs from now. So, no, he didn't do his homework, or the view outweighed the risk in his mind. And someone in CA, AZ, PA, or whatever shouldn't be paying for any of it.

Ouch. Bugs aside, I definitely wouldn't want tax dollars paying for that.

I just had to say, first the Tiger Woods scandal, now the tiger beetle scandal!
Bad time to be named "Tiger" nowadays.

How much would it cost to reinforce the cliffs? Perhaps the homeowners could pay for it themselves?
