Cool "Disco" Dan Washington D.C. Legend, Interview that I donated to the While You Were Sleeping bedtime Stories video. I shot this interview in 1996 or 1997 down on F Street where Dan sat and sold Go Go tapes. If you don't know what go go is, he describes it in the video as "urban tribal music". Dan himself is a D.C. urban legend. Everyone here knows of him, the washington post wrote articles on him and the djs on the radio used to make "your mom has been around the blcok so many times" jokes that used cool "disco" dan as their punchline. I shot this in super 8 film whichmakes it even cooler.

  • Poor "examples" to show . . . Excuse me . . . for gogo, YouTube archives. [50 cents]

  • @beatsandmelodies from Dan "the reason for the archives is some people don't know about the music which has been heard in numerous rap songs by LL Cool J, Grace Jones, RUN DMC, Kurtis Blow, Public Enemy, Dr. Dre's legacy, Beastie Boys, Salt N Pepa, Kid N Play. It's just to let the world know that DC is one of the most unique cities in the US when it comes to talent. Some people don't know about the old school and the history of DCs music.

  • UDC "EVERYTHING U GET U GOTTA WORK HARD FOR IT" . . . Underground Practice . . . FLY FRESH CREW . . . BAD BOY CREW

  • @beatsandmelodies from Dan- "sounds like a bunch of toys to me"

  • Fucking legend!! When I was younger I in the 90s he was up everywhere. Need to get at me homie, I'm trying to find someone to help me out with my style.. #gettingup

  • I grew up in Prince George's County, and I used to see Cool "Disco" Dan's tag just about everywhere when I rode the Metro into DC. I actually used to pass the time riding the Red Line by counting CDD's tags all over the place, and that is one of my favorite memories of riding the rails. It's actually kind of sad to hear about his work disappearing in the name of urban gentrification. He'll always be a part of the DC experience to me!

  • Classic. The next best part of this movie is Rocky Hightower.

  • Did the movie/documentary about him ever come out?

  • @beatsandmelodies from Dan "why don't you wait until the documentary comes out and stop guessing what you hear on the street"

  • dan is a close friend and brother to me we known each other back in the days. he got in to boxing in Midtown in NW DC I am not doing it now because I only boxed for Midtown and I moved from DC. But I still train in TX doing good. Lil Thug
