Controversial bridge inaugurated in Mexico

Mexico's president has inaugurated the tallest cable-suspension bridge in the world, standing at 403m high.

But not everyone thinks the Baluarte bridge, spanning the Sierra Madre mountain range, is a good idea.

Some say that it will become a superhighway for drug trafficking and illegal activity.

Impressive bridge! over 400 meters high! the tallest cable-suspension bridge in the world. I know La Sierra Madre occidental, I have driven by El Espinazo del Diablo, the old highway connecting Durango with Sinaloa, - a windy road with beautiful landscapes and views, but with many kilometers of curves. This new super highway is the solution for that, Great job! I feel proud to be Mexicano!!!

so Americans built the "Canal of Panama" because they wanted to smuggle cocaine from southamerica to northamerica through it. ok, I got it, American drug lords need to cross the continent & bring cocaine to the states. We should look at a map and find out which route is the fastest and easiest for the american drug traffickers.

It was not easy...to cross the sierra. also the drug lords prefer the airways...sneaking around the radar gaps. So please criticize all you want its your right...But also think about the benefits to the Honest folks as wells.

P.S: As a tourist my family and us tried to cross the sierra using the firsts roads....It was hell!!! So the new highway seems like a positive developement.

Perhaps, but u ppl may not realize this but the damn road to Durango from Mazatlan Is lengthy and not in miles but in time....And extremely dangerous as well... I believe Calderon risked the whole "Super Highway for drugs BS" to Help the honest folk that need to go from one state to the other and make it easier...also with a better road comes better ways to patrol the area...My GOD! the frigging road between those two areas had 30-40 degrees slopes
