Maidemo 2001 in Zuerich, Switzerland

Demonstration in Zuerich, Switzerland, called the "Maidemo". It takes place every year on the 1st of May. Actually it's a peaceful event. Unfortunately a lot of visitors are looking for trouble with the police. Mostly there are small riots, sometimes unfortunately bigger ones.
In 2001 the police was able to gain the control over the worst troublemakers very quickly. The so called "Schwarzer Block" was encircled in the Gessnerallee and attacked with tear gas until most of them gave up. Many people have been arrested this day. This video was made during this riot. It was probably one of the most professional police actions I've ever seen. The police did a very fine job at this day.

Die Maidemos sind traditionell ein fester Bestandteil der Fruehlingsvolksfeiern in Zuerich. (Ein aehnlicher Volksauflauf wie das Sechselaeuten oder das sogennannte Knabenschiessen, wo gar keine Knaben erschossen werden und auch Maedchen mitfeiern koennen, die schon lange keine Maedchen mehr sind.) Links und Rechts tummelt sich in den Strassen, schoen wenn's Wetter mitspielt. - Absolut harmlos, auch wenn einige frustrierte Leute etwas Dampf ablassen. - Kintop reif!
